According to Realor.com, This is a trend that needs to die.
I come from a long line of two families that couldn't be more polar opposite. One side of the family would just, absolutely, be appalled at the thought of displaying a deer head. The other side of my family have walls covered in carcasses from hunts of an entire lifetime displayed proudly on their walls. And then there's me. Somewhere in the middle. My husband is an avid hunter. There was a time when I thought this was disgusting and wouldn't dare eat venison, let alone display their horns. Until there was a day I didn't really have a choice. I thank God often for hard times. And for being able to find our way out of those hard times. Because there was a time when we weren't able to fill the fridge, I let my guard down and allow my husband to "bring home the bacon." and actually appreciate it! We have so much appreciation for the animals that walk this Earth and even more respect for them as they fill our bellies. This is something I would have never understood unless it personally related to us. So, long story short: We don't display deer heads out of disrespect or as a trophy of something we killed; We display them to remember how blessed we are. These little gourds were grown in our little garden. If were being honest, they are the only things that really survived. We need a little practice in that department.

So, how do you know when to splurg? I have been playing around with beauty and makeup supplies for as long as I can remember. Beauty isn't really about how you look as much as it's how you feel. I adore feeling glamourous. Sometimes that means a face full of makeup and curls on my head. Other times It may mean no makeup, pony tail, and a kid on my hip. Beauty is so much more than the products you use. But, if were being real for a minute, I need it. I'm pretty sure no one is still using the term hot-mess, but I'm going to bring it back for a minute. If I don't at the very least do something with my hair, I am the epitome of a hot-mess. My hair is course, thick, and bushy. It must be tamed. A while back I decided to jump on the no-poo band wagon. I wanted to go to the roots with my hair health hoping to combat some of it's problem areas. Little did I know my hair would rebel and it would be the worse thing I could have done. It wasn't until my hair began breaking away in my hands and the oil slick forming atop my noggin', I realized how awful the no-poo was for me. Not really knowing what to do, I resorted to el-cheapo shampoo and conditioner. With little change, I resorted to the daily pony-tails. Little did I know a small chat with my beautician friend would reveal the reason for my frizziness. My hair is begging for moisture! Apparently, my hairs thirst was being met by the moisture in the air causing my major, unmanageable poof. While my original no-poo method failed miserably, I considered going with a sulphate free once again. This time, I was leaving it to the professionals. Time to splurg! Fall in love with Fall again because you don't have to go out to the floral store and purchase all your wreath making material. Save your gas, slip on your shoes and explore! How to make a Fall wreath on the cheap: Supplies: something round (In this case I used an antique sifter. Other ideas? knitting circle, basket, interesting plate...anything round!) Leaves from around the yard (please don't pick up anything poison. that's just a really bad idea.) yarn or wire hot glue gun decorative Fall items (pumpkins, gourds, apples, flowers, etc.)
I do believe I had a little too much fun making the introduction. What do you think?
For those of you that have been around the last couple weeks know that I've been on a journey to cleanse our lives of negative energy and things that go in and on our bodies. You may not know that I took a drastic step and threw out anything that I felt was probably harming us more than helping- all hygiene and beauty products included. I challenged myself (a self proclaimed beauty addict) to a 30 day no-makeup challenge. And In this journey I realized how much my inner beauty relied on my out beauty. This was very interesting to discover- it wasn't something to be expected. That's a whole other blog post. After I got in touch with my inner feelings about my desire for makeup and came to a comfortable place to start inserting a few products back into my life, I decided it had to be as close to natural as possible. Starting out, I simply slid a little Vaseline across my lips and called it a day. I love this option, mainly, because it works. However, I'm a girly girl and wanted to have a striking red lip for those days I was feeling a little sassy. Red colorants have a bad rap- synthetic ones anyway. So, I played around a bit, watched lots of youtube videos, read lots of DIY and HOW-TOs. The only thing I really discovered is how much people are blowing this whole thing out of proportion. Have you seen the prices on these products people are using?! Are they insane?!

Piece of My Mind Monday:
I don't mean glancing in the mirror to see your outer reflection. I mean reflecting on what's inside.
Lately, I've been doing a lot of soul searching- what do I want in life, my purpose, my successes, my self worth.... am I doing a good job at being a mom/wife? Am I happy? Are those around me happy? Am I making anyone happy? I'm asking myself a lot of questions. And in this I'm figuring out who I am, where I'm going, and why/if I want to be there. What do you want in life? Usually, I'm right on board with Pantone's color of the year. Generally, we're on the same track as far as my favorite color of the year and the Pantone color of the year. This year, however, I am not a fan. It's coming across as lavendar-ish and I've never been fan of purples. I'm not sure why, but I'm always turned off by any sort of purple. It's a lovely color, just not one I choose to wear or decorate with.
I decided to go ahead and play along though, so I looked through my clothes and came up with my own version of these colors to create a look that I liked- on the cheap, of course.
If I could pick any moment in time to set my in-real-life- DVR to record, so that I can go back to at any moment in time, it would be in a simple moment. A moment that I can vividly repeat in my mind and look forward to often. On a gentle Spring day, riding passenger side, windows down, I sling my arm out an open window and allow my fingers to glide up and down the waves of cool breeze. It's in the split second I'm able to close my eyes, lay my head back and be in absolute peace and nirvana. It's something about the precise balance of cool and warm, the wind tantalizing each and every nerve, the sense of absolute calm, slicing through suspended time.
