I do believe I had a little too much fun making the introduction. What do you think?
For those of you that have been around the last couple weeks know that I've been on a journey to cleanse our lives of negative energy and things that go in and on our bodies. You may not know that I took a drastic step and threw out anything that I felt was probably harming us more than helping- all hygiene and beauty products included. I challenged myself (a self proclaimed beauty addict) to a 30 day no-makeup challenge. And In this journey I realized how much my inner beauty relied on my out beauty. This was very interesting to discover- it wasn't something to be expected. That's a whole other blog post. After I got in touch with my inner feelings about my desire for makeup and came to a comfortable place to start inserting a few products back into my life, I decided it had to be as close to natural as possible. Starting out, I simply slid a little Vaseline across my lips and called it a day. I love this option, mainly, because it works. However, I'm a girly girl and wanted to have a striking red lip for those days I was feeling a little sassy. Red colorants have a bad rap- synthetic ones anyway. So, I played around a bit, watched lots of youtube videos, read lots of DIY and HOW-TOs. The only thing I really discovered is how much people are blowing this whole thing out of proportion. Have you seen the prices on these products people are using?! Are they insane?!
This, my friends, is a $.79 can of beets. Welcome to the real world.
Do not. I repeat. Do NOT go to health food stores or fancy shmancy all natural boutiques searching for beet root extract or beet root capsule and such. I can't believe how much people are paying for all these all natural recipes- creams, oils, extracts, etc. These natural recipes are actually very simple and have been used for centuries. We just decided to make it a trend and companies are banking on it! Cosmetics are simple: base (texture, consistency, thickness) and color. It can, yes, get more complex if you choose to. Such as health benefits. There are tons of things that can be added to all of your hygiene and health products that will give you all sorts of boosts and pharmaceutical advantages. However, I beg you, start simple. Then you can work your way up as you decide what works best for you. You may get started and realize this isn't where you want to be and then you've spent a fortune on fancy labels. So, back to my lip balm (many more recipes will be coming soon.) Need: 1 can of beets (found at most grocery stores) 1 TBSP honey sauce pan and spoon Directions: Pour juice from beets (set the beets aside to eat or use for another recipe) into sauce pan. Stir in honey; allow to reach a boil. Boil for 10 minutes or until mixture is completely reduced to a thick syrup; stirring occasionally.
Now, here's where it's fun. When cooled, you can simply, using your finger tip, glide this across your kisser to create the prettiest shade of girly romance or you can mix this in with a lipgloss base- like I did. I will show you a few other ways soon to fancy this recipe. For starters, try this out and see what you think! You can't go wrong for an endless amount of lip stain for under $1. Not to mention, it's yummy!
